March 8: Life Stories & Bringing Stories to Life - Workshop with Michael D. McCarty
Professional storyteller Michael D. McCarty has travelled the world gathering and sharing tales from people of all walks of life. Join him for a fluid evening of story-sharing at the Beach House, where you'll be guided in the transformation of your own stories both brilliant and foolish into tellable tales for years to come.
Michael D. McCarty is a teller of African, African-American and International Folk Tales, whose stories inform, educate, inspire and amuse. Through his travels to distant lands including South Africa, Zimbabwe, India, China, Jamaica, Russia, Egypt, Indonesia, England, Malaysia and Korea he has built a bounty of tales that testify to the unity throughout the diversity of the human spirit.

March 15: Dance Workshop with Artist-in-Residence Holly Rothschild
Learn what it takes to create site-specific performance installation with Beach House Artist-in-Residence Holly Rothschild. Participants will be assigned specific tasks while learning dance vocabulary and body tools needed to create a mini-performance inspired by architectural and environmental aspects of the Beach House. The workshop will culminate in the mini-performance and discussion. All ages from teens to seniors welcome - no dance experience required. (Youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) Comfortable clothing suggested.

Artist in Residence: Holly Rothschild
Choreographer, dance, musician and educator has been chosen as the second artist-in-residence at the Annenberg Community Beach House. During her time with us, Ms. Rothschild will conduct lecture-workshops, meet with people during open office hours, and create a site specific work that will take place at the Beach House. Among a long list of impressive venues, universities in the US and abroad, Ms. Rothschild's collaborative and independent work has been presented at the Broad Stage, the TED conference, The Anthenaeum in Chicago, at both the 2006 & 2007 Grammys, the Wintergarden in New York City and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Her past work includes original evening-length dance theater pieces, site-specific works, original adaptations and choreography of several plays. She also co-founded String Theory, a hybrid performance ensemble feature musicians, dancers and large scale sonic sculpture with designer/composer (and husband) Luke Rothschild) and cellist Joseph Harvey.

Docent Tours
Learn about the rich history of the Beach House from a Santa Monica Conservancy docent. Tours are free, no reservation required.
NOTE: Group tours larger than 15 people are not available at this time.

Vista Santa Monica
The second exhibition in the Beach=Culture series showcases work that captures the essence of Santa Monica. Works range from conceptual to nostalgic to fantastic... all expanding upon the rich stories of life in the City by the Sea. Artists include long-time residents who have helped shape the vibrant cultural landscape that Santa Monica enjoys.
On display in the Event House through April. Open every Monday and 2nd Saturday, 11 am - 3 pm.
