Proposed fee increase pertaining to beach courts and fields
Beach Volleyball
There are six beach volleyball courts on the sand next to the Beach House. Three courts are available on a first come, first served basis year-round at no charge.
Beach Volleyball Online Reservations
Beach volleyball courts may be reserved by individuals or small parties no more than three days in advance through our online reservation system - $5 for a 1.5 hour reservation. Courts reserved online are intended for individual or small party use only. Please note: Court reservation fee may increase to $10 for a 1 hour reservation July 1, 2013.

Subject to approval by the Beach Recreation Supervisor, team and multi-day court use may be coordinated through the permit process. Fees vary depending on the nature of your group. To apply for a beach court permit, please submit your permit application a minimum of 10 days prior to your requested date(s).
Beach Tennis

A combination of beach volleyball, tennis, and badminton, beach tennis is a doubles game with all volleys played completely in the air. One designated Beach Tennis court is available year-round for reservation or first come, first served use. Nets on the six volleyball courts are adjustable and may be lowered for Beach Tennis play if multiple groups wish to play at one time.

Surf Instruction on Santa Monica State Beach
If you are interested in taking surf lessons on Santa Monica State Beach, please be sure that you are contacting one of the Surf Instructors permitted by the City of Santa Monica. These instructors help to maintain water safety and maximize public recreational opportunities on Santa Monica State Beach. All of the Permitted Surf Instructors have been proven to provide the safest, highest quality surf instruction available. They make every effort to help you have a great day at the beach!
